In 1984 the community of Canteen Creek, located around a 4 hour car trip from Tennant Creek, was established by Mr. Raymond Mick. Raymond’s aim was to move his family away from town life and develop a positive environment. One of his commitments right from the beginning was that Canteen Creek would be a dry community. Starting out with basic humpies made out of bushes and various materials; the community eventually developed to what it is today – houses, a community store, a school, a health centre, and an all weather airstrip.
The local church in Canteen Creek has existed since the beginning. Over the years, the church has had close association and support from Richard & Sue Davies, who were involved since the beginning through their relationship with Raymond Mick; and they also lived in Canteen Creek for some years (they are now located in Cootamundra, NSW). The church now continues with remote support from our workers and the continual prayers of his people.
